About the Practical Nursing Certificate
Like RNs, practical nurses work closely with physicians and other medical professionals. They serve an important role in healthcare institutions, as well as home care organizations.
In this program, you'll learn learn to properly administer medication, understand the psychology behind patient interactions, explore the dynamics of caring for patients of varying ages, and more. An emphasis is placed on patient care, safety, teamwork, collaboration, and professionalism. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing.
This certificate is a step-out option for students already accepted into the nursing program but wishing to pursue other care options. If interested in this certificate, current students should speak with their advisor.

What Can I Do With a Certificate in Practical Nursing?
Practical nurses provide essential hands-on care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician across a variety of types of health care facilities.
Duties may include monitoring and recording vital signs, administering medications, dressing wounds, inserting catheters, collecting samples, and assisting with daily activities, such as bathing or feeding.

Facilities
The Nursing and Health Education Building reopened in 2019 following a $9.6 million renovation. It is equipped with state-of-the-art skill and simulation labs to train students for real-world scenarios.
